Engage: Orlando

Picture
Engage: Orlando is a partnership with Johnson University-Florida mobilizing students who are pursuing mission studies to dive into cross-cultural outreach in the city. Engage: Orlando is an opportunity to learn hands-on through rhythms of practice and reflection while engaging in evangelism in the city. Mission interns live off campus in the city, participate in training in church multiplication and cross-cultural evangelism, and engage their community as ambassadors of the gospel.  It is an opportunity to grow as practitioners while completing their academic work as ministry students.

Orlando represents an emerging global city and a dynamic urban arena for learning to serve in a world of cities. Orlando is the most visited city in the United States. As the city experiences growing Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist populations in addition to large numbers of Caribbean, South American, and Mexican communities, 25% of Orlando residents speak a language other than English at home. Nearly 50% of the city's residents are struggling economically, and 86% of Orlando residents are not part of any evangelical church. While there are a number of strong and vibrant churches in Orlando's metro area, the need for disciple-making initiatives in Orlando remains urgent.

If you are interested in participating in Engage: Orlando, you may contact Global City Mission or inquire through the inter-cultural studies program at Johnson University Florida campus.
